CV Products, Racing Community Lose Dear Friend - Glenn “Mick” McGee
It is with great sadness that CV Products Inc. regrettably reports that Glenn “Mick” McGee passed away on the evening of Saturday, April 19th. McGee, who was manager of the Professional Race Support (PRS) Drag Race Division, had ironically turned in his resignation recently in order to spend more time with friends and family. After attending the NHRA national event in Houston, Texas, Mick stopped in the Kansas City area (where he relocated last year) for a few well-deserved personal days. He returned the company’s NHRA transporter to CV Products’ headquarters late on the evening of Friday, April 18th and was traveling with his fiancé, who had followed him to Thomasville, NC so that they could return home together to Kansas City. The couple had stopped at a restaurant in the Lebanon, TN area and returned to their hotel when Mick reportedly collapsed suddenly and died from an apparent heart attack.
“This is a very sad day for all of us,” stated company President Clyde Vickers. “Mick has been with us for almost four years and played a key role in helping develop and expand the Professional Race Support program, as well as our company’s more recent NHRA and IHRA drag race initiatives. Mick McGee was a good employee but most importantly, he was a good friend to us all. He stood out as having a particular passion for truly caring about what he did. In fact, he was adamant about making sure his (PRS) program continued to grow and be successful even after his departure. He spent a lot of his life working on the road and certainly one of our few regrets is that he did not get more time to enjoy the break with his family that he was looking forward to. We know that Mick touched a lot of people’s lives in his professional and personal lives, and will be sorely missed by all. Our condolences and well wishes go out to his entire family.”
Glenn “Mick” McGee, most recently known for his sales and service acumen, was also widely regarded for his photography and writing skills. He had a diverse and extensive career that included terms as Field Editor and Editor of Late Model Digest, Advertising & Marketing Director for ButlerBuilt Motorsports and General Manager, Public and Media Relations at Concord Motor Speedway. He joined CV Products’ marketing department in 1999 and eventually assumed responsibility for the company’s PRS NHRA and IHRA programs. Mick served as a staff photographer for the AP and UPI wire services for various newspapers in numerous markets from 1961 to 1980. He had also been partnered in several successful photography businesses prior to pursuing his passion for racing.
McGee’s schooling included attending the Kansas City Art Institute, where he earned his B.F.A. in Photography, with honors. He had several teaching opportunities at Wichita State University and suburban Kansas City, MO police departments, where he taught photography. Mick was also a proud and decorated veteran of the United States Navy, where he served with distinction as a deep sea diver and instructor.
Glenn “Mick” McGee was 55 years old and leaves behind a family that includes a son and 3 daughters, and 4 grandchildren. A “Celebration of Life” service in Mick McGee’s memory will be held on Thursday, April 24th at 12:00pm CST at Porters Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS 66215 (phone 913-438-6444). The family has requested that individuals and/or entities touched by Mick and wishing to contribute on his behalf consider a donation in his name to the American Heart Association (on-line at
www.americanheart.org – select “Donate”, then “Memorial” or toll-free at 1-800-AHA-USA1).
CV Products Inc. is also planning several tributes in honor of Mick McGee, including a decal recognizing his contributions as “A Racer’s Friend” which will be available at the PRS trailer in Bristol, TN for racers to display at this upcoming weekend’s event. It will be represented on the company’s PRS transporters as well. If you have any questions, please contact CV Products Inc. at 1-800-448-1223 for more information.
